EUNGAI CREEK BUFFALO FARM café - mid-north coast of NSW
Creamy, dreamy, buffalo milk...
Why is buffalo milk so creamy? Its high fat content of 8% makes Buffalo milk ideal for making soft cheeses, yoghurt and gelato, milkshakes, and of course, added to coffee!
I recently visited Eungai Creek Buffalo Farm, a working farm that produces a variety of delicious cheese, gelato, yoghurt and buffalo meat products.
The farm is on a 120-hectare property run by the Massingham family, and situated 6 km off the Pacific Highway at Eungai Creek, in the Nambucca Valley.
There is also a café onsite, with a covered outdoor dining area that overlooks the farm and buffalo herd – a shady spot to enjoy lunch on a hot day, or you can make a booking for dinner.
My friends and I ordered share plates for lunch as this was our first time eating buffalo.
Our delicious meal included Buffalo Mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto, The Works Burger, a Pulled Buff Burger, and Nepalese style momos.
And for dessert – dreamy, creamy gelato! Flavours include Finger Lime, Macadamia & Lemon Myrtle, Salted Caramel and more.
You can also buy farm produce to take home. The farm’s buffalo milk products include yoghurt, and fresh cheeses – Halloumi, Labna, Persian Feta, a Greek style Feta, Mozzarella, and a Pecorino cheese.
The farm’s buffalo meat products include – Porterhouse and Scotch Fillet steaks, eye fillet, and sausages. Take a chiller bag with you to keep your purchases cool.
I bought jars of Buffalo Mozzarella and Persian Feta soft cheeses.
The mozzarella has a high moisture cheese so it melts quickly. Add chunks on top of your homemade pizza just 5 minutes before serving. The Persian feta works beautifully scattered across a bowl of pasta just before serving.
The cafe is open for lunch THURS-SUN 10am-3pm and dinner FRIDAY and SATURDAY nights from 6pm – bookings essential.
As you turn into Eungai Creek, you’ll drive along a dusty gravel road to the farm, which is suitable for a standard non-4WD car and well worth the drive.
